Cousino tightens race with victory over Utica

There’s a new look to the MAC Blue Division boys basketball race.

Donald Wilburn scored 20 points to help Cousino hand Utica its first division defeat with a 62-49 victory Wednesday night.

Both teams have one division loss. Utica is 7-1 with two games to play and Cousino is 6-1 with three games left.

Nick Farr and Sam Hawk scored 12 points apiece in the victory.

Mason Brodi led Utica with 30 points.

Cousino plays Ford and Utica meets Lake Shore on Friday.

The Patriots also have games with Lake Shore and Fraser remaining on the schedule. Utica closes Blue play at Anchor Bay on Feb. 7.

Fraser 39, Lake Shore 37

Ashton Goul scored 10 points and Nikko Nash nine to lead Fraser to the MAC Blue victory. JaSean Dean led Lake Shore with nine points.

Anchor Bay 58, Ford 55

Dylan Gira had a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds and Bishop Thomas had 15 points and five steals to carry Anchor Bay to the MAC Blue victory. Drew Trappe added nine points and seven rebounds. Ford’s Dakari Rogers scored 17 points. Anchor Bay is 5-3 and 7-8.

Lakeview 83, Marysville 49

Matthew Ritter scored 26 points and dished nine assists to lead Lakeview, which remained in a three-way tie for first place in the MAC Silver Division. Charrone Gordon had 13 points and nine rebounds and Xavier Hassan had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds plus six steals. Lakeview plays at Port Huron on Friday. Both teams are 6-2, the same record as St. Clair. The Saints play at Madison.

Port Huron 44, Madison 40 (OT)

Dwynell Benjamin made two free throws with 2.7 seconds left to send the game into overtime and Senior Conner Rosenau scored 12 points

to lead Port Huron. Keanu Mills scored 13 points for Madison. Port Huron’s remaining Silver Division games are against Lakeview on Friday and at Marine City on Feb. 7, the day Lakeview plays Madison in its division finale.

Port Huron Northern 75, Romeo 72

Tyler Jamison had a double-double with 36 points and 11 rebounds to lift Port Huron Northern. The Huskies’ victory coupled with New Haven’s loss to Eisenhower gave Northern the MAC White championsh­ip and a No. 1 seed for the MAC tournament. Cam Harju had 17 points and seven rebounds and Luke Maher scored nine points as Northern improved to 8-0 and 13-1. Manny Towne scored 19 points, Tim Kewley 17 and Ricky Hussey 10 for Romeo (4-4, 6-7). Kewley grabbed 19 rebounds.

Grosse Pointe North 82, Warren-Mott 54

Adam Ayrault scored a school-record 40 points and went over 1,000 for his career while leading Grosse Pointe North to the MAC White victory.

Warren Woods-Tower 67, L’Anse Creuse 63 (OT)

Corey Charleston scored 20 points and Chris Randolph 14 to lead Warren Woods-Tower to the MAC Gold victory. Caron Williams scored 18 points, Donovan Weatherly 13, Amari Brownlee 12 and freshman Julius Wilson 10 for L’Anse Creuse. Warren WoodsTower is 5-2 and 11-4. L’Anse Creuse is 4-3 and 9-3.

Roseville 66, Stevenson 35

Terrance Partridge scored 25 points and Jalen Mosley 15 for Roseville in the MAC Red game. Sam Kashat scored nine for Stevenson. Second-place Roseville is 5-2 in the Red and 9-6 overall.

L’Anse Creuse North 46, Dakota 35

Connor Kouki scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds for a double-double that sparked L’Anse Creuse North to the MAC Red victory. Drew Kozel added 12 points.

Austin Catholic 38, Detroit Cristo Rey 37

Sophomore Chase Bourdic’s basket as time expired lifted Austin to its third consecutiv­e victory. Adrian Boudreu scored 11 points and Adam Weingartz added 10 for Austin (5-6).

Ubly 59, Memphis 23

Brayden Franzel scored 13 points and Evan Peruski 10 to lead Ubly. Donovan Schuster had 10 points, three rebounds and two steals for Memphis.

Hockey

Utica-Ford Unified 6, North Oakland 5

Trevor Townsend scored three goals to lead UticaFord to the non-league victory. Carson Konczalski scored two goals, including the winner, and Aidan Kim added one. Shane Romano was the winning goalie.

Wrestling

Several wrestlers take their first steps in post-season competitio­n Saturday during Macomb Area Conference division meets.

Warren-Mott hosts the Red/White tournament and Lake Shore hosts the Blue/ Gold.

Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. at both sites. Admission is $5.

Dual-meet champions were Dakota in the Red, Utica in the White, St. Clair in the Blue and Lakeview in the Gold.

Next week, district tournament­s will be held. Team competitio­n will be Feb. 8-9 and individual Feb. 11.
