Office to be open extra two hours for next three Tuesdays

Clinton Township Treasurer Paul Gieleghem has announced extended hours on Tuesdays in February to help working residents pay their 2022 taxes and avoid late fees.

“Our small but efficient staff in the treasurer’s office is juggling the schedule to stay open late on Tuesdays in February,” said Gieleghem. “We don’t want residents to take time off work to pay their taxes.”

The treasurer’s office will be open an extra two hours, from 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, 14, and 21. On Monday, Feb. 27, the last day to pay 2022 taxes, the office will stay open an extra half-hour, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Gieleghem said the township will also provide free and safe automated options for those who want that convenience. He said online and automated phone payments are free when processed as an e-check, which requires the bank account and routing number found on the bottom of personal checks.

To pay online, customers can go to the township’s website at clintontownship. com, click on bill payments, and follow the prompts to search for a property by name, address, or parcel number.

Paying by phone begins by calling 1-833-4403769 and following the prompts. However, to use the automated phone system, taxpayers must know their parcel ID number on their tax bill. In addition, a 2.8% service fee is added to credit and debit card payments.

Payments can be placed in an envelope and inserted into the dropbox in front of the Civic Center or mailed to the Clinton Township Treasurer at 40700 Romeo Plank Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48038. Customers should write their parcel number on their checks to ensure payment is applied correctly.

By state law, all unpaid 2022 taxes are declared delinquent and transferred from the local community to the Macomb County Treasurer for collection on March 1. Once balances are transferred, the Macomb County Treasurer adds a 4% administrative fee and 1% interest charge per month for the first year. Afterward, increases will occur.
