GINNARD, CHARLES RAYMOND

-

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Charles Raymond Ginnard, resident of Hockessin, Delaware, age 75. Chuck was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather; he loved summers on Lake Michigan and found joy in the skies as an avid recreational pilot. Chuck was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1947, the son of Catherine & Raymond Ginnard, and the second of eleven children. It was in Detroit that Chuck met Christine, his high school sweetheart. They began dating in 1964 and married in 1969, spending 53 loving years together.

In 1969, Chuck graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Wayne State University, and accepted employment as an Analytical Chemist with DuPont’s Central Research Department in Delaware. Throughout his 40-year career at DuPont, Chuck was regarded as a leader and supportive colleague. His ever-present safety-first mentality — and reminders to wear eye protection — will never be forgotten.

Chuck and Chris spent summers “Up North” in Suttons Bay, Michigan where they built their retirement cottage on the water; a getaway where they enjoyed beach bonfires, fishing, stargazing and time with family.

Chuck earned his recreational pilot’s license in 1973, logging many hours in Cessnas, navigating the world above the clouds. He was a long-standing member of the Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association (AOPA) and the Salem Aero Club, serving as the Salem Aero Club’s president and treasurer at different times during his 30+ years of involvement. He was a frequent volunteer and coach for the Delaware Science Olympiad and YMCA Adventure Guides, spending many hours with his children and nurturing a love for science.

Chuck is survived by his wife Chris; daughter Kelly; daughter Janet, and her husband Ben; son Matthew, and his wife Brooke; grandchildren Bennett, Carson, Rhys, Nia, Ramona, and Simon. He is preceded in death by his daughter Lynne Kathleen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
