Top seeds win MAC girls tournament openers

The top seeds played like it. Madison Bettys had a doubledoub­le with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Anayya Davis had 12 points and six rebounds to lead Ford to a 50-20 victory over Romeo in the opening round of the MAC Red/White girls basketball tournament Thursday night.

Kailee Gillich scored eight points and dished five assists and Lilah Earl and Maria Raciti gave Ford “great minutes” off the bench, coach Matt Joseph said. Earl made two triples and Raciti had five points and six rebounds as Ford and other No. 1 seeds swept their openers.

Ford, the top seed from the White after winning the division championsh­ip, plays at Dakota in a semifinal game Tuesday.

Red champion Grosse Pointe North, Blue champ Marysville, Gold champ Marine City, Silver champ Fitzgerald and Bronze champ Hazel Park also won.

In other semifinals Tuesday, Anchor Bay plays at Grosse Pointe North in the Red/White; St. Clair is at Marysville and Cousino at Marine City in the Blue/Gold, and New Haven is at Fitzgerald and Hazel Park at Warren Woods-Tower in the Silver/Bronze.

Championsh­ip games are at Cousino on Feb. 18.

DAKOTA 66, EISENHOWER 61 (OT)

Tambre Williams tied the school record with 22 rebounds and Samone Andrews had a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds and added seven assists and seven steals to lead Dakota to the Red/White victory. Gabby Foster-Brooks had eight points and Gracie Maloney seven points for the Cougars (10-9). Williams tied the record set by her sister, Taylor. Tambre Williams also had seven points and seven blocked shots. Ava Stack scored 18 points, Gabriella Gojcaj 13 and Devin Raymond and Jen McWethy 12 apiece for Eisenhower (12-5).

GROSSE POINTE NORTH 53, L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 34

Natalie Babcock scored 23 points to spark Grosse Pointe North (15-2) to the Red/White victory. Jenna Winowiecki scored 10 points and took seven rebounds and Sophia Borowski

had eight points, eight assists and six rebounds. MaKayla Downs scored 14 points for L’Anse Creuse North.

ANCHOR BAY 41, LAKEVIEW 31

Gabby Thiede scored 15 points and Julia Tkaczyk 12 to lead Anchor Bay to the Red/White victory.

MARYSVILLE 56, L’ANSE CREUSE 38

Avery Wolters scored 19 points and Kara Miller 14 to carry Marysville to the Blue/Gold victory.

COUSINO 56, SOUTH LAKE 41

Savannah Karczewski scored 20 points and Kasi Pearson scored 19 points and took eight rebounds to help Cousino win the Blue/Gold game. Chloe Sakalas had 12 points and 13 rebounds plus three blocks and Demaya Asberry five points and seven assists. South Lake’s Christina Gibson scored 17 points and Da’Nia McClain 13.

UTICA 48, CLAWSON 13

Katelyn Shtogrin scored 12 points and Vanessa Galovich

10 to lead Utica (512) to the MAC crossover victory. Kenzie McMillan scored eight points for Clawson.

PORT HURON NORTHERN 57, LAKE SHORE 15

Kate Nichols scored 16 points to lead Port Huron Northern to the MAC crossover victory.

LUTHERAN NORTH 51, UNIVERSITY LIGGETT 46

Senior Elise Neumeyer scored 18 points to lead Lutheran North. Freshman Emma Rosenow had 15 points and sophomore Claire Leinberger eight.

NORTH BRANCH 50, ARMADA 34

Bailey Gormley scored 18 points and Tracy Ludescher 10 for North Branch in the BWAC game. Armada’s Ashlyn Upton had 12 points and Ella Sutton and Meya Drob five apiece. The Tigers are 6-5 and 10-8.

MOUNT CLEMENS 46, HENRY FORD ACADEMY 8

Leila Sears scored 14 points and Leah Williams 12 to lead Mount Clemens.

Boys basketball

MARLETTE 50, MEMPHIS 28

Quintin Sarton scored 26 points and Aaron Brower 10 for Marlette. Cody Rembowski and Reed Schuster scored six points apiece for Memphis.

LUTHERAN NORTH 40, EVEREST COLLEGIATE 38

Jacob Burke had 21 points and six rebounds to lead Lutheran North. The Mustangs are 8-2 in the Catholic League Intersecti­onal 1 division and 12-3 overall.

Boys results from Imperial Lanes: Eisenhower 23, Stevenson 7; Dakota 24, Chippewa Valley 6; Lake Shore 21, L’Anse Creuse North 9.

Brandon Rinke had 243212/455 and Dylan Harnden 211-235/446 to help Eisenhower remain undefeated. Aaron Husken had 192-225 for Stevenson.

Landen Moore rolled games of 248 and 246 and Connor Rogus 279 and 192 to lead Dakota, which remained one game behind Ike. Brandon Mento had 211 and 194 for Chippewa Valley.

Zephan Lazar had 208267/475 and Tyler Kiroski 243-157/400 for Lake Shore. L’Anse Creuse North’s Avery

Kushel had 215-214/429.

In girls matches, Stevenson defeated Eisenhower 29-1; Dakota defeated Chippewa Valley 28.5-1.5, and L’Anse Creuse North beat Lake Shore 28-2.

Megan Redmond had 198-192/390 and Jenna Rohloff 194-172/366 to help Stevenson stay undefeated. Eisenhower’s Paige Milot had 170-158/328.

Dakota’s Alexis Gurd had 220-180/400 and Riley Brownrigg 183-199/382. Chippewa Valley’s Liz Rust had 166-140/306.

Haley Straetmans had 201-188/389 and Sophie Paupert 180-194/374 and Jenna Daugherty had a 246 game to power L’Anse Creuse North. Lake Shore’s Avery Koebke had 181205/386.

PERFECT GAME

Hazel Park junior Myron Pickett rolled a 300 game during the Vikings’ 25-5 victory over New Haven. It was the first perfect game for Pickett, whose previous high was 289. He helped Hazel Park improve to 10-0 in the MAC Gold Division. The Vikings are No. 2 in the state coaches associatio­n ranking of Division 3 teams.
