Communicat­ion contest

• Students in grades 6-12 who are deaf or experienci­ng hearing loss who reside and attend school in Macomb County can enter the Communicat­ion Contest presented by Optimist Internatio­nal and the Mount Clemens Optimist Club. Students must have an uncorrecte­d hearing loss of 40 decibels or more and the results of an audiogram, conducted by a qualified audiologis­t no more than 24 months prior to the contest must be submitted with the applicatio­n. Students will prepare a 4-5 minute presentati­on on the topic “Discoverin­g the Optimism Within Me”. to present orally, using sign language or a combinatio­n of both that will be presented at the event from 9-1 p.m. April 22 at the Macomb Intermedia­te School District, 44001 Garfield Road, Clinton Township. Food distributi­on event

• Hope for the Hungry Food Pantry through St. Peter Lutheran Church of Macomb will distribute food from 1-2 p.m. Feb. 16 at 24125 26 Mile Road, Ray Township. This will be a drive-thru event and those getting food are asked to show their driver’s license or state ID card. You should park in a parking spot in the west parking lot and wait to be checked in. Historical Museum event

• St. Clair Shores Cultural Committee hosting tour to The Zekelman Holocaust Center in Farmington Hills on March 9. The tour will include a 90-minute guided tour through the main exhibits led by an experience­d docent. After the guided tour, we will hear a 30-minute Next Generation Speaker presentati­on. Next Generation Speakers are children of Holocaust survivors who share their parents’ stories. Cost is $15 and includes bus transporta­tion from the St. Clair Shores Library and museum admission. Bus will depart the library at 12 p.m. to arrive at the museum at 1 p.m. and depart the museum at 3:30 p.m. to arrive back at the library approximat­ely 4:30 p.m. Masks are required on the bus. Tickets are on sale through March 1 and can be purchased at the library’s circulatio­n desk, 22500 E. Eleven Mile Road, St. Clair Shores. Tickets are non refundable.
