Bad answer to inflation issue
Count me among those who question how putting “inflation relief” checks into the hands of all Michigan taxpayers will be the answer to the outrageous inflation rates that are rampant across our state, and country. Demand for items, a key component in driving inflation up, or down, will only increase when there is more “free money” in the hands of millions of Michiganders.
The billions of surplus dollars sitting in Lansing, just waiting to be wasted on pork barrel projects, programs, or one-time give-aways to buy votes for the next election, mainly came from overburdened taxpayers across America, including Michigan, and have contributed to our skyrocketing $31 trillion, and growing, national debt. Too many people thought, incorrectly, that raising the minimum wage, and paying $15/ hour to workers, would level the income inequality in this country, but the end result was big businesses was given the chance to lie about out-of-control wages “forcing” them to raise prices to cover their spiraling worker costs. Along with the computer chip shortage issue, and higher prices for food, gas (the gas industry just reported their highest profits ever in 2022), clothing, etc., American consumers/taxpayers have been pummeled mercilessly. If the economy is going along so wonderfully then leave it alone and don’t add gasoline, “inflation relief” checks onto it, causing inflation to start growing again, or stick around and do its damage for many more months, or years.
