Cannabis provisioning center gets special land use approval
Holistic Health said it will open in six months
Holistic Health marijuana provisioning center plans to open its Eastpointe location in six months after the city council approved a special land use request Tuesday for the property located on Gratiot Avenue south of Toepfer Road.
The site plan, which includes the provisioning center, a parking lot and a memorial area for first responders and veterans, was approved unanimously by the city’s planning commission earlier this month.
City Planner Mara Braciszewski said Holistic Health plans to completely demolish the 8,000 square foot building located at 24115 Gratiot Avenue and build a 3,000 square foot medical marijuana provisioning center and an 18-space parking lot with two electric vehicle charging stations. The building will have solar panels and new landscaping.
The total investment in the project is more than $2 million. The memorial site area represents an investment of $135,000 and is to include a walking path, benches, mature trees, and a plaque honoring firefighters, police, first responders, military and veterans.
“The city’s code of ordinances requires a special land use permit to operate a medical marjuana provisioning center,” Braciszewski said. “The applicant, Holistic Health, has been a great business partner throughout this process.”
Holistic Health has also committed to contributing $50,000 annually to support the community once the business reaches profitability. Eastpointe Community Schools, the Eastpointe Memorial Library, senior centers, the Recreational Authority of Roseville and Eastpointe, and Cruisin’ Gratiot could each get a piece of that annual contribution. The business will also provide 320 volunteer hours to local charities.
“As long as the business remains open in the City of Eastpointe the intention is to continue the contributions,” said Holistic Health attorney David Rudoi. “With this type of business, we believe profitability will come very quickly once we open.”
Mayor Monique Owens voted against approval of the special land use application; Councilwoman Stacy Cobb-Muniz abstained.
Holistic Health is a provisioning center for medical marijuana only and will not include recreational cannabis sales.
