Macomb Mall welcomes back Monster Jam trucks, drivers and the WRIF crew for a meetand-greet on Thursday, March 9.

The lineup includes Grave Digger, one of the most decorated and iconic monster trucks, and Megalodon, the newest of the Monster Jam beasts.

Also, WRIF-FM’s (101.1) Jade Springart and the WRIF Crew will be on hand with free Monster Jam tickets and pit passes. Guests will be entered into a drawing to win a mini 24V Grave Digger Power Truck.

Macomb Mall officials say the Monster Jam has proven to be one of the mall’s most popular attractions of the year. Guests really enjoy getting to see the souped-up vehicles up close, they added.

“We’re excited to be hosting the Monster Truck meet-and-greet after having to cancel it for the past few years,” Elaishia Outley, the mall’s marketing coordinator, said in a statement. “This year, we’re expecting the excitement to be on a different level as we welcome back the WRIF and Monster Jam Crew.”

The display is in advance of Monster Jam, a two-day event of action and sound scheduled for that weekend at Detroit’s Ford Field.

According to the Monster Jam website, the awardwinning Grave Digger was rolled out in 1982 by Hall of Famer Dennis Anderson. Currently, there are nine versions of Grave Digger

on the circuit, allowing the truck to make concurrent appearances at events throughout the country.

Grave Digger has a 1950 Chevy Panel Van body style and red headlights. Its paint scheme combines green flames, letters dripping in blood, a foggy graveyard

scene with tombstones bearing names of competitors, a haunted house silhouetted by a full moon and a large skull-shaped ghost.

Anderson’s son, Adam, is the vehicle’s driver. Adam Anderson started competing in Monster Jam at a young age in 2005. His long career includes a lot of accomplishments, including five Monster Jam World Championship wins in three different trucks.

Megalodon, a concept version based on the giant shark, was developed into a Monster Jam truck in 2016, making its competitive debut

in Nashville, Tenn. It features foam fins to create a life-like shark wiggle on the track.

Driving Megalodon is Todd LeDuc, a two-time Monster Jam World Finals champion.

The event is free, but guests “should be prepared to stand in line no matter what the weather” is as the event takes place outdoors.

Fans are encouraged to bring their own cameras, Outley said.

Trucks will be on display all day March 9, but the drivers will be available for autographs and photos from 4-8 p.m. in the South Court near Diamond Gallery.
