Pool to extend hours, change rates for 2023

Lac Sainte Clair pool rates are being simplified for the 2023 season, going from 12 different price points to three.

Since the city installed the pool water slide in 1991, fees have been based on use of it. The daily rate for a St. Clair Shores resident to use the pool and the slide was $6.50; to use the pool only was $4.50. Between residents and non-residents, youth, adults and seniors, slide or no slide, the St. Clair Shores pool was juggling 12 different rates.

“We are actually simplifying things so that we have three rates instead of 12,” said City Manager Dustin Lent.

There will be one adult resident pool rate of $5; a youth/senior resident rate of $4; and a non-resident pool fee of $7. All fees include use of the slide. Annual pass rates will stay the same as in 2022 — $40 for a resident adult; $35 for a resident senior/youth; $90 for a four member family pass. The cost of adding an additional family member to a pass will drop from $25 to $20.

The pool will also employ a new key fob system for pool entry in effort to avoid long lines especially on hot summer days.

“It is mainly to expedite the process of getting into the pool,” said Lent.

The restoration of the pool's underwater lights will allow its hours to be extended by one hour in the evening. Instead of closing at 8 p.m., the pool will close at 9 p.m.

“This will allow for more time for families to come and swim and enjoy the pool after work,” said Councilwoman Candice Rusie.

Four pool events are planned for 2023, although details have not been announced. There is a Rock the Dock event planned for June 17; movie and float events planned for July 1 and a yet to be determined date in August and a dog event in September.
