Detroit’s Stellwagen Elementary School Troop 118’s property was absorbed when Wolcott Mill was purchased. Former Boy Scout of that troop and once given permission has been able to search and discover items of the camp’s existence including axe head, cooking kit, rusted out flash light and bicycle, neckerchief slide pocketknife has been discovered. Novak will give a lecture on his experiences at 7p.m. April 20at the Ray Township Senior Center, 64225Wolcott Road. Troop 118alumni are asked to come at 6p.m. for a chance to meet up with Novak. Former scouts can email him pictures of the cabin and property to rnovak@wujekcalcaterra.com as well as any stories that would help enhance his presentation. COMMUNICATION CONTEST
• Students in grades 6-12who are deaf or experiencing hearing loss who reside and attend school in Macomb County can enter the Communication Contest presented by Optimist International and the Mount Clemens Optimist
Club. Students must have an uncorrected hearing loss of 40decibels or more and the results of an audiogram, conducted by a qualified audiologist no more than 24months prior to the contest must be submitted with the application. Students will prepare a 4-5minute presentation on the topic “Discovering the Optimism Within Me”. to present orally, using sign language or a combination of both that will be presented at the event from 9-1p.m. April 22at the Macomb Intermediate School District, 44001Garfield Road, Clinton Township. FOOD DISTRIBUTION EVENT
• Hope for the Hungry Food Pantry through St. Peter Lutheran Church of Macomb will distribute food from 1-2 p.m. March 16at 2412526Mile Road, Ray Township. This will be a drive-thru event and those getting food are asked to show their driver’s license or state ID card. You should park in a parking spot in the west parking lot and wait to be checked in.
