Many St. Patrick’s Day revelers Friday will be sporting T-Shirts in honor of the Irish and the City of Detroit.

Born in Detroit Apparel announced that it has expanded their apparel line to more than 20 Meijer locations throughout Macomb and Oakland counties and among the new designs is a shout out for St. Patty’s Day.

“We are thrilled with our partnership with Meijer as a retail outlet for our product line,” Anthony Tomey, co-owner of Born in Detroit, and The Tomey Group said, in a news release.

The fashionable brand of apparel that showcases the pride of Detroiters near and far was created by two sets of brothers including Anthony and his brother Michael Tomey, George and Alex Bourkoulas and their friend Michael “Mickey” Shumaker.

The group got their trademark in 2015 and then launched the popular brand in 2020.

The founders were all born in Detroit, attended area schools, played sports throughout the area, and have a fierce gritty work ethic that overflows with pride for all things Detroit.

“You do not need to be born in Detroit, to be a proud Detroiter and you can wear Born in Detroit and showcase to the world how much this city means to you,” promotional materials from the brand states.

Michael Tomey said the company’s expansion to additional Meijer locations is a direct reflection of the great partnership they have with the local grocer and the community’s reception of the Born in Detroit brand.

George Bourkoulas concurred.

“This expansion also allows us to introduce additional designs, color choices and products featuring the Born in Detroit brand,” said Bourkoulas.

The expanded line includes T-shirts for both men and women, unisex tanks and a special T-shirt honoring 313 Day (March 13).

The company has also announced that a portion of the proceeds from the Born in Detroit Kronk Gym shirts will go to support Emanuel Steward’s charity for at-risk youth called ESCOT (Emanuel Steward Champion of Tomorrow).

Born in Detroit has had collaborative partnerships with local schools creating customized spirit wear apparel for charitable initiatives, as well as a previous partnership with the Detroit Pistons.
