RESTORATION PROJECT WILL BENEFIT FROM NEW EQUIPMENT ACQUIRED BY LAKEVIEW’S AUTOMOTIVE PROGRAM
The latest car restoration project initiated by Lakeview High School’s automotive program is the restoration of a 1953 Lincoln Capri.
“The students are working on what they call a ‘rustortation’it’s not a full restoration; they’re trying to get it back to driving condition. The goal is to get the vehicle up and running but still keep them rusty and looking old,” stated Auto Technology teacher James Schneider.
The end goal is to enter the car in the 2024 Autorama, an annual car showcase held in Detroit.“My students are working on the car right now. We’ve got the rest of this year and up until next February to get it ready for the show,” said Schneider.
A new improvement to the program that will aid in the restoration of the car and student success is the addition of new equipment.
“We received some new tire-changing equipment and a new TIG welder; it’s the same type of equipment that you would see in dealerships and independent shops that are in the area. These new tools will really help out in our project with the car,” explained Schneider.
Furthermore, the new equipment will leave a positive impact on student achievement and education.
“Our advisory team looked at what other shops
are using and purchased things that students could use in class to get them prepared for working in an automotive shop. The students will develop and refine
techniques, and ultimately improve the necessary skills for a job in the field,” said Schneider.
Thanks to hands-on learning and instruction by
Schneider, the Lincoln Capri will be showcased in the 2024 Autorama. The new equipment obtained by the program will be very beneficial to the project.
