Man arrested after shot fired at police
A 47-year-old man is in custody after allegedly firing a shot at police officers in a Chesterfield Township mobile home park early March 23.
Chesterfield Township police were called to the Carriage Way mobile home park located near Gratiot Avenue and 24 Mile Road shortly after midnight for a malicious destruction of property report. Officers met with the complainant, who described how he was a victim of malicious destruction property.
While they were investigating the crime, the suspect stepped out of his trailer and fired a shot near the officers from his AR-15 rifle, according to Chesterfield Township police. The officers took cover, and the suspect barricaded himself in the trailer.
Additional officers responded, and the suspect’s trailer was surrounded. The Macomb County SWAT team was activated and responded to the area.
Officers were able to communicate with the suspect, who disobeyed the police direction to give himself up. He continued to threaten the officers with his rifle, police said in a release.
The unidentified suspect stepped outside his trailer yelling insults towards the officers. The SWAT team was able to tactically approach him and take him into custody without further incident.
The Chesterfield Township Detective Bureau was called in. A search warrant for the suspect trailer was authorized and later served. The detectives and officers were able to recover and confiscate the AR-15 rifle and the spent shell casing, along with other weapons.
The suspect was lodged at the Macomb County Jail on felony assault and malicious destruction of property charges.
