Let the justice system play out
The indictment of Donald Trump as a civilian, not as a current, or former president, needs to be seen as what it is: A grand jury being presented with information that convinced it there is a “possibility” the former president “may have been” involved in actions that were illegal.
It didn’t find Donald Trump, before he became president, guilty, or innocent of those actions — that will be decided during a trial by a jury of his peers, which in itself will be a near impossible task to come up with. The grand jury suggested there should be a trial, where Donald Trump and the prosecution, will get a chance to present evidence, and arguments, to convince a jury of Mr. Trump’s innocence, or guilt.
MAGA supporters of Mr. Trump are already starting to react as if this is a historic miscarriage of justice, with Mr. Trump tweeting there will be “death and destruction” if he is indicted, worded so slickly he can claim he just predicted that type of action, and he would “never instigate” it — similar to his calls for demonstrations that turned into violent, deadly actions at our nation’s Capitol, on Jan. 6, 2021, to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. This indictment of Trump could turn out to be the catalyst that will propel him to victory over his rivals for the 2024 GOP Presidential nomination, and lead to his 2nd term as president.
The indictment will undoubtedly result in countless hours, days, and months of media coverage for the ego-obsessed Trump, but just as importantly, tens-of-millions of Trump supporters donating hundreds-of-millions of dollars to the self-proclaimed billionaire Trump’s political campaign, which candidate Trump controls.
No matter how this case finally turns out — remember Donald Trump, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty — there will be countless appeals, delays, and other legal actions by Trump’s defense team that will drag this out for years.
While this case against Donald Trump is a State of New York action, one can’t help but visualizing it ending up before the U.S. Supreme Court, where the majority of Justices are conservatives, nominated by GOP Presidents, with three being nominated by President Trump.
If nothing else, this case will dominate the national and many states political scenes, and protect our elected officials from focusing on solving far more important problems such as our growing national debt, deteriorating infrastructure, global warming, threats from China, Russia, and North Korea, immigration, drugs, and dozens of other more important issues.
Let the judicial system do the job it has done so well for nearly 240 years. William Krull
