An ex-convict from Macomb County was recently arrested in Ohio with possession of $4,000 worth of various drugs including fentanyl following a traffic stop, according to police and media reports.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers filed felony drug charges against Dewone Desean-Kenneth Cook, 31, of Warren, after he was pulled over on Interstate 80, commonly known as the Ohio Turnpike, in Wood County, Ohio.

OSHP say Cook was stopped about 1 p.m. April 20 while driving a 2021 Nissan Rogue with Kentucky registration for speeding and following too close. During the stop, troopers detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

During a consensual patdown search, troopers located the drugs on Cook. Additional drugs were also found during a probable cause search of the vehicle.

“Troopers seized suspected fentanyl, including 30 grams of powder and nine pills, two bottles containing eight ounces of liquid promethazine, more than three grams of marijuana and an alprazolam pill,” the Highway Patrol said in a statement.

WKBN-TV reported the combined worth of the drugs seized totaled approximately $4,500.

Cook was transported to the Wood County Justice Center and charged with possession and trafficking of fentanyl, both first-degree felonies, and possession of dangerous drugs, a fifth-degree felony, according to WTVG-TV.

Cook faces up to 23 years in prison and a fine of up to $42,500 if he is convicted.

According to Michigan Department of Corrections records, Cook was arrested in 2014 for delivery/ manufacturing less than 50 grams of cocaine in Wayne County. He was placed on probation for two years and discharged in 2015

Seven months after his probation ended, Cook was again arrested for delivery/ manufacturing less than 50 grams of cocaine in Wayne County. He was placed on probation and discharged in 2020, MDOC records show.
