A 48-year-old man was found shot to death in a home in Eastpointe and a police are holding a relative in custody after the victim’s nephew walked into the police station and informed police.

Eastpointe police said the incident happened about 3:30 p.m. Friday when the nephew entered the police station and told police that “his uncle was possibly murdered.” He said the shooting happened inside of a home on the 16000 block of Stricker Avenue, which is one block north of Eight Mile Road, east of Gratiot Avenue.

Deputy Police Chief Matthew Hambright said detectives were dispatched to the residence for a follow-up investigation. They located and detained the suspected shooter.

“Inside the home, officers located signs of foul play,” Hambright said in a news release. “The suspect was interviewed and apprehended.”

According to police the victim, who they said was related to the suspect, was located a short time later at the rear of the home with a fatal gunshot wound. Police did not elaborate on how the two were related.

The suspect remains in custody at the Eastpointe Police Department. Detectives will present the case to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office to make a decision on appropriate charges.

It was not clear if the men resided in the same house, what the signs of foul play mentioned in release were, and what were the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The suspect’s age and residence were not including in the release.

Hambright could not immediately be reached for comment Monday.

Due to Monday being a federal holiday, the 38th District Court was closed so an arraignment is expected to take place Tuesday.
