The Shelby Township Library is always a busy place but it’s going to be even busier once children find out it’s a mail depot for letters to Santa Claus.

“The Letters to Santa program, in partnership with the Kiwanis Club, adds a special touch, bringing joy to the hearts of our youngest residents,” Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis said in a news release. “These initiatives embody the season’s essence, fostering a sense of togetherness and community spirit, making Shelby Township a wonderful place to call home.”

The children’s area as well as other nooks in the library have been transformed into a magical place where families can gather to read or write. Children can visit the library, let their creativity flow and pen heartfelt letters to Santa Claus.

As a mail depot for the North Pole, Santa’s dedicated elves, in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of Utica-Shelby Township, will be working diligently to ensure that every child receives a personal response from the man in the red suit. This cooperative effort brings the community together and brings joy to the holiday season.

The magic doesn’t end with the letter writing.

In anticipation of the festive season, Shelby Township library will also launch its much-anticipated Christmas Book Bundle sale. This event brings joy to book lovers and benefits the Friends of the Shelby Township Library.

An array of carefully curated book bundles, each wrapped with holiday ribbons, adorn library shelves. These $8 bundles make good gifts, offering a delightful surprise for readers of all ages. Whether you’re a mystery, romance or adventure fan, there’s a bundle waiting for you. The Christmas Book Bundle sale runs until Dec. 21.

“The holiday season is a special time at the library, and we’re thrilled to bring joy to our community. The Christmas Book Bundle sale offers enchanting reads and supports our invaluable Friends of the Library,” said Kattie Ester, director of the Shelby Township Library. “It’s a wonderful time for families to come together and celebrate the season at the library.”

The proceeds from this festive initiative will directly contribute to the Friends of the Shelby Township Library, a dedicated group working to enhance library programs, services and facilities. This community-driven effort ensures the library remains a beacon of knowledge and enjoyment for all residents.

Families who visit the library will find it offers a warm and inviting space to escape from the winter chill. Patrons can experience the season and cozy up with a good book by the floor-to-ceiling fireplace in the Joseph and Karen Gale Reading Lounge, a perfect spot to lose yourself in a captivating story while enjoying the warmth of the fire.

Children will also be delighted by the 30-foot Children’s Tree sculpture and a one-of-a-kind interactive Magic Book that provides an exciting opportunity for young patrons. Kids can borrow Nintendo Switch games this season, adding an extra dose of fun to their library visit.

“Whether you’re seeking a quiet reading nook or planning a family outing, the Shelby Township Library is your go-to destination for holiday cheer,” Ester said. “Discover the joy of the season, surrounded by the warmth of community, engaging reads and the laughter of children delighting in the magic of the library. Visit the library this holiday season and make lasting memories in the heart of Shelby Township.”
