Roseville’s mayor and members of City Council are seeing a few extra bucks in their paychecks after receiving an increase in their salary. The elected officials approved a 3.25% pay boost late last year after the Elected Officials Compensation Commission recommended the raises.

Some observers may have overlooked the item, since it appeared on a consent agenda and didn’t receive a direct vote. The compensation commission is a recommending body to the council, which has the final say through a vote.

“Myself, I would not have taken the increase but we work here as a team, so I voted in favor of it,” Mayor Robert Taylor said Wednesday.

With the raise, the mayor now earns an annual salary of $11,016 while the six remaining council members are paid $8,987, according to the city manager’s office.

City Clerk Jennifer Zelmanski said she polled the council beforehand to determine whether anyone had an issue with the raises and whether the item should appear as an item under new business. She said no one expressed any objections, so the matter was placed on the consent agenda.

According to City Manager Ryan Monroe, this was the first raise given to council members since 2017.

The compensation commission also decided to make no changes in the salaries of the city clerk or treasurer.

Commission members typically examine salaries to elected leaders in nearby communities or cities of similar populations, as well as the last time a raise was awarded as they determine whether an increase is warranted.
