A Roseville man was charged Tuesday in connection with an alleged domestic violence assault against his girlfriend and her daughter and fleeing from police in Sterling Heights.

Gary Eugene Young, 36, was arraigned in 41A District Court in Sterling Heights on five felony counts and three misdemeanor charges.

The incident took place Sunday when he was at his girlfriend’s residence in Sterling Heights where he allegedly assaulted the woman and her teenage daughter. Police arrived at the residence, which prompted Young to run away before he entered a vehicle and fled the scene.

Prosecutors said officers attempted a traffic stop where Young fled at a high rate of speed. He crashed his vehicle near Gratiot Avenue and Interstate 94, where he ran on foot, ignoring police commands.

Young allegedly continued to resist officers until he was arrested.

“The actions of the defendant, who allegedly assaulted two women and endangered public safety by fleeing from law enforcement and assaulting officers in the process, will not go unpunished,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said Wednesday.

Young was charged with third-degree fleeing police, assault with a dangerous weapon, assaulting a police officer causing injury, and two more counts of assaulting/resisting a police officer.

In addition, he was arraigned on two counts of misdemeanor domestic violence, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license-second offense.

Magistrate Michael Piatek set bond at $15,000 cash/surety, 10%. A preliminary exam is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024 before District Court Judge Annemarie Lepore.
