Detroit police search pond for missing teen
Investigators wrap up pond search for Na’Ziyah Harris
Authorities have concluded a search of a secluded pond in Clinton Township on Wednesday afternoon for a missing teenager out of Detroit.
Detroit police launched the search for 13-yearold Na’Ziyah Harris in a pond located in the area of Gra- tiot Avenue and 14 Mile Road near a former trash incinerator. A police dive team searched the area without finding any signs of the girl.
“We can confirm that the Department’s Major Crimes Division is searching an area in Clinton Township as we continue to follow all leads in hopes of finding Na’Ziyah,” Detroit police said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Clinton Township police said they were aware of the search, but were not involved in the effort.
Na’Ziyah Harris was last seen Jan. 9 when she got off at her bus stop on Detroit’s east side.
She was reported missing to Detroit Public Schools Community District police the day after she did not return home. School police got federal law enforcement involved, including the U.S. Marshals Service.
At a Feb. 14 news conference, Detroit Public Schools Community District Department of Public Safety Chief Labrit Jackson said authorities were searching for Harris in Detroit, but the investigation could also lead them to communities outside of Wayne Count
Investigators have said they do not believe Harris was initially abducted, but they did not give any additional information about that statement.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 cash reward for information leading police to Harris’ location.
