No dresses are needed. What the Sparkle Network’s Prom Closet could really use are teenagers who wish to experience prom night but don’t have a dress.

Or the means to purchase one.

“We still have a thousand beautiful dresses,” said Moe Lietz, a comedian and founder of the Sparkle Network, a nonprofit organization that works to support local causes, charities and young people through contributions and signature programs like the Prom Closet.

Their inventory is due to the generosity of individuals and businesses in Metro Detroit like Macy’s whose donation of formal gowns for the program included dresses featuring everything from sparkles and sequins to chiffon, satin and organza.

Need a gown for the prom or homecoming dance?

The Prom Closet has you covered and the dress you choose is free.

During the 9th annual Prom Closet Tour juniors (class of 2025) and seniors (class of 2024) are encouraged to shop at one of five businesses in Macomb and Oakland counties participating in this year’s tour. Each stop will provide students with an opportunity to shop for a dress for their special night.

This year’s Prom Closet stops include:

• March 29-30 at T-Tech Solutions in Troy

• April 5 at the Meadowbrook Center for Learning Differences in Rochester

• April 6 at Children with Hair Loss in South Rockwood

• April 7 Front Door Housekeeping (Utica) 10-4

• April 12-14 at Macomb Mall in Roseville

Teens who wish to shop the collection must make an appointment to stop at any of the tour locations. The link to sign up is: sparklenetwork. org/prom-closet-project/.

Those who sign up will be sent a form to complete. A completed form, picture of ID, along with an email confirmation from us is required for the appointment to be considered “booked.”.

Many of these generous businesses also donate makeup/skin care, shoes or even services in some areas.

“I have kids who get a hold of me from the very first year,” Cat Massof of St. Clair Shores and owner of Kitty Deluxe boutique, in a testimonial for the Prom Closet.

Massof said the students are so grateful and thankful for the dresses they’ve received.

One student who went on to attend college after her prom said ended up passing her dress on to someone else.

“I’ve had other people tell me it was the best night of their life,” Massof said. “I just love that Lietz puts this together for girls that might not have an opportunity to have a pretty dress for prom. It’s absolutely free for them and I just think it’s a great thing that she does.”

Last year nearly 30 students were able to attend their proms thanks to the Prom Closet Project and those who support it.

Among the fundraisers that help is the annual Ladies Night Out in New Baltimore coming up March 24 from 4-6 p.m.
