Medical Science program: Skills for Life
New Haven High School is thrilled to offer its dynamic Medical Health Science program, opening a gateway to explore the fascinating world of healthcare. With a rich and diverse curriculum, this program is designed to ignite students’ passion for medicine while equipping them with essential skills and certifications for future success.
The program features classes in Sports Medicine, Medical Careers, Anatomy & Physiology, and Advanced Medical Skills classes. Students have the opportunity to delve into their preferred area of interest, paving the way for a tailored educational experience.
One of the program’s standout features is the chance for students to earn valuable certifications upon completion, including Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Physical Therapy Aide certification. These certifications provide a solid foundation for students looking to pursue careers in healthcare, opening doors to a myriad of professional opportunities.
In addition to certifications, students receive training in crucial medical skills such as AHA BLS CPR and First Aid certification, medical terminology, vital sign assessment, patient transfers, antisepsis, HIPPA and FERPA regulations, infection control, PPE application, capillary draws, ECG procedures, and more. This comprehensive approach ensures that students are well-prepared to meet the demands of the healthcare field.
Furthermore, students enrolled in the program have the opportunity to join the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) organization, where they can showcase their skills and compete in medical competitions, further enhancing their learning experience and networking opportunities. “We are excited to provide this innovative program, providing students with a unique opportunity to explore various facets of healthcare while gaining hands-on experience and certifications,” says Dawn Vigneau. “Our goal is to inspire and empower the next generation of healthcare professionals, and this program is a crucial step towards achieving that.”
