Board of Trustees Feb. 28 meeting briefs
Macomb Township Board of Trustees approved the following measures during its Feb. 28 regular meeting:
•The board approved a request to adopt a resolution and accept a contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) regarding Garfield Road expansion. The board additionally authorized the township supervisor to sign the contract between the township and MDOT.“This is for money that is technically being used for Garfield. However internally that, some of the funds were redirected because it was requested and approved through our residents at Chelsea Park,” Supervisor Frank Viviano said.
Viviano said that the township was awarded money to offset cost on Garfield Road, but savings on Garfield were applied to Chelsea Park road reconstruction. In a memo to the board dated Feb. 20, Viviano wrote that the township was awarded legislative earmark funds from sponsor State Sen. Veronica Klinefelt for the Garfield Road expansion. The expansion will be between 23 Mile Road and 25 Mile Road. In order for the township to receive the $100,000 in earmark funding, a resolution was required authorizing the agreement and the supervisor to sign the contract.
•The Macomb Township Board of Trustees approved the fiscal year 2025 water and sewer five-year capital improvement plan on Feb. 28 as well. The township’s public works department works in conjunction with its engineering department to develop a five-year water and sewer capital improvement plan annually. The two departments work together to accomplish the goals and objectives of growing and improving the township’s infrastructure.
