A man named as a suspect in a shooting in Macomb County is behind bars today after being arrested in Livingston County over the weekend.

Brighton police arrested the suspect in a January shooting in Eastpointe after a pursuit using K9 units and drones Saturday.

He was armed with a pistol, but no shots were fired by the suspect or officers during the arrest, and no injuries were reported, Brighton police said in a release.

According to Brighton police, at about 1:55 p.m. Saturday, officers attempted to stop a motorist with multiple arrest warrants near a shopping center near West Grand River Avenue and Challis Road.

Officers pursued the vehicle but briefly lost sight of it. About 10 minutes later, officers found the vehicle parked off Advance Street but it was empty, investigators said.

Police said officers set up a perimeter and started a search using drones and two K9 units the area. At about 3:40 p.m., an officer said they were pursuing the suspect on foot and moments later took him into custody.

The accused suspect was being held at the Livingston County Jail. He is wanted by the Eastpointe Police Department for shooting that took place in January, police said without releasing details.

Eastpointe police said they had no information available Sunday on the arrest.

In an unsolved shooting in January, one person was hospitalized with several gunshot wounds following a shooting near Kelly and Nine Mile roads in Eastpointe. Detectives said at the time their investigation was stymied by an uncooperative victim. Authorities said there evidence at the scene to indicate it was the result of a shootout where more than 60 shell casings were fired from several types of guns.

From the arrest over the weekend, Brighton officers said they were assisted by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Hamburg Township Police Department, Green Oak Township Police Department, and the Novi Police Department.
