Dakota girls take district title
The Dakota girls basketball team won an MSHAA district championship on Friday, defeating Anchor Bay 47-45 in a narrow contest to keep their season alive.
Tambre Williams dominated, getting 16 points and 19 rebounds. Brooklyn Garavaglia had 11 points, Gabby Brooks-Foster added nine points and five assists, Samone Andrews had six points, six steals and three assists, Gracie Maloney chipped in four points, six rebounds, four steals and three blocks and Gia Rizzo added two points.
Now 18-6, the Cougars will move on to the regional round to face Chippewa Valley in the semifinal.

Boys basketball
NEW HAVEN 47, LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 43
Zander Smith led the Rockets to the district championship win 16 points. Lamar Pearson had 10 points and Leandre Barnes chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds.
The district champion Rockets improved to 14-10.
Girls basketball
FORD II 79, L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 50
Four different Falcons scored in double digits, with Tyra Wright leading the way with 20 points and three assists. Emily Leusby had 14 points and seven rebounds, Claire O’Brien had 12 points and Anayya Davis had 11 points and five assists.
LCN’s Ava Kilgore led all scorers with 26 points.
Ford improved to 16-6 and LCN fell to 3-18.
