Habitat Women’s Luncheon coming up
Tickets for the April 11 fundraiser are on sale now
Spring is just around the corner and among the annual events that individuals and groups look forward to attending is Habitat for Humanity Women’s Luncheon at the Italian American Cultural Society in Clinton Township.
This year’s event will be happening from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 11.
Many women look forward to the event not only because it provides an opportunity to learn more about Habitat’s mission and the families that have benefited from the program but also to support the cause.
This year’s fundraising goal is $25,000 and being the hefty mark that it is, even more women have chosen to support the event not only as attendees but guest speakers, vendors and sponsors.
“I call this ‘courageous leadership’ because with all of the barriers we face as a nonprofit seeking to assist working families with affordable and permanent housing, it took a fearless army of women to demonstrate that by restoring the mission, they were infact, restoring themselves,” said Helen Hicks, president and CEO of Macomb Habitat, which is still looking for sponsors. “Giving has come full circle, bringing life-changing satisfaction to all who are involved.”
Tickets for the spring luncheon are $50.
Patty Lopez, president of Rose-A-Lee Technologies and luncheon chairperson said she’s volunteered to help with the luncheon because she knows Habitat has a real impact on her
community.
“There are families that don’t have a roof over their head at night and don’t know when they’ve have one. Also, 78% of those who apply to become Habitat partners are single mothers, and I’m a single mother,” Lopez said.
Guests attending the event will be treated to a meal, shopping and browsing among a number of vendors and raffles.
What follows the luncheon and social networking portion of the event is a program that is informative and sometimes tearful, but always inspiring. Leading this year’s program are three guest speakers who support Habitat and other causes throughout the region including:
• Andrea Jones, owner of Nothing Bundt Cakes and one who donates to charities
every chance she can including Macomb Habitat.
• Mary Lamparter, a local philanthropist who finds great joy in giving.
•Gloria Fitzpatrick, partner family member who will share her inspiring story of struggle and success.
“We have a great lineup of speakers,” Lopez said. “They’re all examples of female leaders who are taking the opportunity to give back to their communities and inspiring others to do the same.”
