Central Macomb Optimist Foundation goes Hawaiian

Fundraising event set for April 20

The Central Macomb Optimist Foundation plans to make Shelby Township as hot as Hawaii this April when it hosts the Spring Into Action event.

The foundation is a 501(c)(3) fundraising portion of the Central Macomb Optimist Club. It will host a Spring Into Action event on April 20 at Shelby Gardens Banquets and Events, 50265 Van Dyke Ave. in Shelby Township. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be held at 6:45 p.m. In keeping with this year’s Hawaii theme, casual or Hawaiian attire is encouraged. Spring Into Action 2024 will include dining, raffles, an open bar, a door prize drawing, and entertainment.

Central Macomb Optimist Club Vice President Kathryn Searle said that the Hawaii theme will be included in the decorations, backdrop selfie areas and the sale of floral leis for one of the raffles.

“Last year we had dueling pianos for entertainment at this event, which everyone enjoyed. For this year’s event, we wanted to have a different theme we thought people would like, and it was determined that a Hawaiian luau, with Polynesian dancers for entertainment, would be a fun theme for our guests this year,” Searle said.

Patrons can take hula lessons, and a DJ will provide

music throughout the evening. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase for the different raffles offered at the event, starting at $10.

“By purchasing a ticket to the event, the patron is automatically entered into the door prize drawing. This year, the door prize is a Traverse City package including a gift certificate to a restaurant in Traverse City, as well as gift cards to four wineries on the Mission Peninsula,” Searle said.

Donors of gift cards, gift

certificates or items for raffles at the event can send the donation to Searle at 16530 Congress Drive, Clinton Township, MI 48038. Donors located in Macomb County can contact 586-360-7343 to request pick up of the donation. All donations are due by April 10.

The Spring Into Action event program will be a 5.5 inch by 8.5 inch book. Interested sponsors wishing to advertise in the program can choose an ad size from five different options. More information on types of advertising available and how to make payment can be obtained by contacting kdsearle@yahoo. com. Ads and payment are due by April 3.

The Central Macomb Optimist Club assists children and youth locally. Proceeds from the event will support the Shop with a Sheriff program. Searle said this year marks the 15th that the foundation has hosted a dining event to support the Shop with the Sheriff event. Shop with the Sheriff is a partnership between the Central Macomb Optimist Club, the Macomb Charitable Foundation and the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

In August of each year, the groups work together to take children in need locally shopping for back to school clothes. Searle said that each participating child can spend up to $150. The nonprofit Macomb Charitable Foundation is a local organization, dedicated to providing assistance to homeless and poverty level children or families in Macomb County. The organization assists with things such as rent and utilities, food and clothing. The Macomb Charitable Foundation recommends families for Shop with the Sheriff, and police or club members are paired with a family to help complete the school shopping on a budget.

Cost to attend the Spring Into Action event is $60 per person. Only those age 21 and up may attend. Tickets can be obtained by contacting 586360-7343 via phone, or by email at kdsearle@yahoo. com. Reservations and payments are due by April 3. Seating is limited.
