scoring performances from senior Janiya McWilliams, who scored nine of her 15 points in the second half, and junior Kaylynn Millander, who scored 14 points with half of them in the latter half.

“What do we have to hang our heads for?” Shakespear said. “Three years ago we were 1-19. Year before that we were 2-20. And the year before that I think we were 2-19. In a transfer portal world, these girls took their lumps, they grew, they matured, and in the last two years we’ve lost four games.

“What is there to hang their heads for? These girls are amazing. They

deserve all the accolades that they got this year.”

Shakespear felt that Wednesday’s defeat will be one that the players will hold with them for a long time — not because of the numbers on the scoreboard, but because they didn’t give in despite them.

“No matter what, long after they leave from Fitzgerald’s walls, the one thing they’ll remember is they were taught (that) when the chips are down, they fight,” Shakespear said. “And that’s all I ever ask for out of any school, any sport that I coach. All you do is fight.”

Edison (30-3) got points from 12 of their 14 rostered players. Three players scored in double figures. The only team now that stands between them and a trip to the Breslin Center is 26-0 Goodrich, who also took down a Macomb County squad on Wednesday, beating Regina 45-26. The game will be on Tuesday, March 19 at West Bloomfield.
