Creativity the main course for the Yvonne Leslie Pottery Lunch
Anyone who loves to entertain people in their home can appreciate a beautiful table setting.
It’s many of these hosts who are looking forward to the Mount Clemens’ Crocker House Museum’s Yvonne Leslie Pottery Lunch at Zuccaro’s Banquets and Catering at 11 a.m. April 6.
It’s not just a luncheon but a gathering that kicks off with an exciting unveiling of beautiful, creative and imaginative designs and has been going on for years.
“Each year more people have requested that we continue this magnificent fundraiser,” said Barb Dempsey, former Mount Clemens mayor and an avid supporter of the event.
Dempsey said it provides participants with an opportunity to show off their artistic creativity by designing their centerpieces. It’s also an entertaining experience for guests who will see themes ranging from magical and whimsy to incredibly outlandish.
Designers can showcase their treasures such
as dinnerware and glassware, silverware or even linens, some of which have been passed down from one generation of hosts to the next.
“It’s also a great afternoon to enjoy camaraderie with family and friends by having a great lunch and winning some wonderful prizes,” Dempsey said.
The first pottery lunch organized in 1999 by Yvonne Leslie of the Mah-Nah-BeZee Questers was started as a fundraiser for the Mount Clemens’ Crocker House Museum and grew into a popular social event.
In the early days tables were set with China and pieces from Mount Clemens Pottery and featured the company’s manager as a guest speaker and tableware aficionado. The funds raised went to purchase a bridal basket for the Crocker House Museum collection.
After that the pottery luncheon was carried on as a fundraising event under the Questers sponsorship. However, after 19 years it became such a popular event it was moved to the Macomb County Historical Society, Crocker House Museum and Gardens. The late
Yvonne Leslie, for whom the event is still named, was an active member and past president of the Mah-NahBe-Zee Questers and Mount Clemens’ Crocker House Museum.
Tickets are $50.
This includes a delicious buffet lunch and the opportunity not only to get some ideas for your own table setting but to support the programs and events put on by the Crocker House Museum and Gardens.
Those who attend will see more than 30 beautifully decorated tables. It’s also a fun event, in which
guests are asked to vote for their favorite table prior to enjoying lunch among friends, neighbors and new acquaintances. The event also features raffle tickets for a grand prize and dozens of other raffle baskets to be awarded.
Tickets to the event must be purchased in advance by calling
