L’Anse Creuse Foundation is on the move with Classic 5K
Fun, fitness and fundraising will be combined into one Classic 5K this April, when the L’Anse Creuse Foundation hosts its second annual run/walk event.
This year’s L’Anse Creuse Classic 5K will be held April 28, with check-in starting at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K starting at 9:30 a.m. 5K Chairperson Ne’cole Cichowlas is also the president of the L’Anse Creuse Foundation. She said that both the run and walk are 5K.
“This is the second year, and we had such a positive response last year that we just knew we had to do it again,” Cichowlas said. “We feel it is a healthy way to bring our communities and schools together to support a great cause.”
The 5K will begin and end at the Tucker Senior Center, located at 26980 Ballard Street in Harrison Township.
“We used this location last year and it was just the perfect size for our event, and the community of Harrison Township has been so easy to work with, and so very supportive, that it made the decision to return an easy one,” Cichowlas said.
Registration for the 5K run/walk can be found at lcpsfoundation.com . Cost to participate is $35, and race shirts are only guaranteed for those who register by April 4. After April 4, the cost increases to $40 per person to participate up until the day of the event, Cichowlas said. Same-day race registration will be offered on April 28 during the 8:30 a.m. check-in. Cichowlas said that finishers medals are also available to participants.
“Everyone, regardless of running or walking, will follow the same scenic route along the spillway,” Cichowlas said.
Those who participate in the 5K will receive bibs, and timing will be offered. Cichowlas said that once registered, participants will be given information to obtain their race results, which will be posted with Eastside Racing Company. Strollers are permitted at the 5K, but pets are not. Cichowlas said that the foundation has been promoting the event via social media and L’Anse Creuse Public Schools, providing flyers in district buildings and requesting that building principals help spread the word.
“This event brings together people of all ages and fitness levels from the local community, fostering a sense of camaraderie and unity,” Cichowlas said.
Cichowlas said that several factors contribute to the uniqueness of the L’Anse Creuse Classic 5K, including community spirit, a family friendly atmosphere and a supportive environment.
“Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a first time participant, the supportive environment encourages everyone to reach their personal goals and celebrate their achievements,” Cichowlas said.
The 5K will benefit the L’Anse Creuse Foundation. The foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resources for enrichment programs and other projects that enhance education opportunities for students and teachers of L’Anse Creuse Public Schools. The foundation provides teacher grants, scholarships to graduating seniors and money for additional special projects.
“The L’Anse Creuse Classic 5K will benefit the overall goals of the L’Anse Creuse Foundation. While it may not always be tied to a specific project, the funds raised often contribute to various initiatives aimed at supporting educational programs, student scholarships, teacher grants, special funding and other important endeavors within the L’Anse Creuse School district,” Cichowlas said. “The exact allocation of funds may vary from year to year based on the foundation’s priorities and need.”
