COMET task force seizes hundreds of grams of deadly fentanyl, cocaine
State Police say illegal drugs have a street value of $60,000
Authorities are investigating after hundreds of grams of fentanyl and cocaine were seized from five locations in Macomb and Wayne counties, officials said Thursday night.
The County of Macomb Enforcement Team (COMET) executed the five search warrants Wednesday night in undisclosed locations that resulted in a large quantity of illegal drugs being taken off the streets.
“In total, detectives seized 1,156 grams of fentanyl, 61 grams of cocaine, and 8 firearms,” investigators said.
State Police said the approximate street value of the drugs is $60,000.
Police did not reveal the cities or townships where the raids took place, as well as information on the names, age and residences of the suspects.
The case will be reviewed by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
COMET officers were assisted by law enforcers from the Thumb Narcotics Team, the St. Clair County Drug Task Force, and the FBI.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid drug approved by the government for use for pain relief and anesthetic. It is approximately 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin as an analgesic.
COMET is an undercover drug task force made up of officers from Chesterfield Township, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Roseville, St. Clair Shores, Shelby Township, and federal agencies
The project he investigation was supported by Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) awarded by the U.S. Justice Department and administered by MSP.
