VICTIM’S SISTER: ‘THERE IS NO GOD FOR YOU’
Man gets life in prison for murdering couple
The sister of an Eastpointe man assailed her brother’s former neighbor who shot and killed him and his girlfriend on the false belief they stole drugs from him.
An emotional, animated Dayna Robinson spoke Wednesday in Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens at the sentencing of Dennis C. Evans, who was ordered to serve life without parole for killing Robinson’s brother, Dorian Mitchell, 37, and his girlfriend Christie Davis, 50, in January 2022 outside their Eastpointe apartment building. Evans believed they had broken into his unit and stole drugs, which he later learned wasn’t true. Mitchell and Davis resided in the same building on 10 Mile Road.
“I just hope that whatever happens to you in jail, it will be the same you did to them but worse,” Robinson said in court while Evans sat in the jury box. “My brother didn’t do anything. Christie didn’t do anything, and they didn’t deserve this and we can never bring them back no matter how much time you get. Even if they would give you the death penalty, it wouldn’t bring him back.”
Robinson, who named her son after Mitchell, referenced the fact Evans served two prior prison terms for murders in Wayne County.
“All that time you were sitting in there before you got out you ain’t thinking about the consequences before you got back out there free,” she said. “I pray nothing for you. There is no God for you.”
Two other sisters of Mitchell — Sharesse Mitchell and Desirea Robinson — and his mother, Rachel Mitchell-Miller, also attended the sentencing. Sharesse spoke as did Davis’ sister.
Dayna Robinson added her brother was hard working and a good person who was “trying to stay away from the streets.” He worked at a factory at 23 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue, sometimes walked to work if he missed the bus, his mother said.
A jury convicted Evans of two counts of first-degree, premeditated murder in February following a circuit court
