Six teenagers riding in a stolen vehicle that also contained marijuana, multiple ski masks, and guns were arrested early Wednesday after crashing the car, police said.

Detective Lt. Alexander Holish said the teens, ranging in ages from 14 and 17, fled from police in the area of North Park and Grove avenues. The pursuit ended when the teen driving the stolen car crashed near 10 Mile Road and Saxony Avenue on the city’s north side.

“Luckily, no one that was involved in this incident was injured,” Holish said Wednesday night in a news release.

According to the release, police were dispatched to the 15000 block of Charles R Avenue about 1:30 a.m. to investigate three males that were looking into a car parked in a driveway.

As officers pulled up, the teens ran back to a silver Hyundai that they had arrived in. The Hyundai then sped off, police said.

Officers searched the neighborhood and eventually located a silver Hyundai with a broken rear window and no license plates traveling on North Park near Grove. Police activated their emergency lights and sirens, but the driver did not stop.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed around 10 Mile and Saxony. Authorities said six juveniles fled the damaged car on foot but were apprehended.

Further investigation showed the Hyundai the teens were riding in was reported stolen.

Investigators conducting an inventory of the car’s contents found two semi-automatic handguns, marijuana, multiple ski masks, and gloves.

Holish said the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case file and decide on what criminal charges to issue. Charges likely will include fleeing and eluding police, firearms possession, and motor vehicle theft.

In addition, the Eastpointe city attorney will be consulted to determine whether parents of juveniles can be charged for their children’s crimes, Holish said.
