A Warren man who pleaded guilty to criminal charges in a widely-publicized Fraser stabbing case was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Clinton Township, his defense attorney confirmed Thursday.

Collin West, 18, was pronounced dead at McLaren Macomb hospital in Mount Clemens hours after the crash at 7:14 a.m. Tuesday on Groesbeck Highway and North Avenue, south of Hall Road.

West’s attorney in his criminal case, Jeffery Cojocar, was shocked to learn of his client’s death and said the man’s family is devastated.

“It’s tragic to say the least,” Cojocar said. “It’s absolutely horrible. I can’t image what the family is going through.”

West’s mother died in 2018.

According to Clinton Township police, a 2013 Chevy Impala driven by West was traveling north and crossed into the center lane and struck a southbound 2023 Chevy Blazer, which the driver was going to turn on to southbound North Avenue. West’s Impala then also struck a southbound 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, police said.

In September 2022, West was involved in a wild incident at a Fraser home where 14-yearold Trent Redstrom was killed and he and the 14-year-old male victim of his stabbing were injured.

West faced the most serious charges, attempted murder and first-degree home invasion, and pleaded guilty in February in Macomb County Circuit Court to reduced charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and second-degree home invasion.

He was scheduled to be sentenced April 26. It was expected that Judge Michael Servitto would grant West’s request for status under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act in which his convictions would be wiped from his public record if he complied with conditions set by Servitto.
