Record Store Day brings dozens of exclusives for music fans this weekend
Music fans have lots of reasons to do some shopping in person this weekend — and not just because Taylor Swift is releasing her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
The annual Record Store Day, now 17 years old, has become a nirvana for music lovers worldwide. It’s not only an excuse to visit an independent record store, but also to pick up dozens of special, limited edition — and mostly vinyl — titles being released especially for the day.
Among the Michigan-related discs coming out this year are Slum Village’s “Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit),” the Amboy Dukes’ “Journey to the Center of the Mind” LP, Motown songwriter Lamont Dozier’s “Love & Beauty,” Iggy & the Stooges’ “Live at Lockerse Feesten 2005,” Yusef Lateef’s “Atlantis Lullaby: The Concert From Avignon,” “Osmlum Deluxe Edition” from Parliament, and a specially curated compilation of the Westbound Records label.
Also among the offerings this year are vintage live albums from Talking Heads, U2, the Doors, Yes, Acetone, America, Average White Band, the Replacements, Television, Thin Lizzy, the Tragically Hip, Wall of Voodoo and others, as well as exclusives from RSD ambassador Paramore, the Rolling Stones, David
Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Willie Nelson, Notorious B.I.G., George Harrison, John Lennon, Nas, Metro Boomin, Motley Crue, Queen, Def Leppard, Public Enemy, Ramones, Donna Summer and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor.
Pearl Jam and Ringo Starr are among those putting out special RSD editions of their new releases for the occasion.
Also notable is a three-LP set from the “South Park” 25th-anniversary concerts last August in Colorado, featuring performances by Primus and Ween and a reunion of Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson.
