- By Mitch Hotts

A female Warren police officer was hospitalized Monday afternoon for a possible concussion after she was struck from behind while attempting to break up a fight outside of Lincoln High School, according to police.

A juvenile female, who is not a student at the high school, was arrested for the attack, while a man who was involved in the initial fight was also taken into custody.

According to a preliminary investigation, officers were dispatched at 2:50 p.m. to Lincoln High School on Federal Avenue in the Nine Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue area after the department received several calls regarding several people fighting.

When the officers at the school, they went to place an adult male under arrest, police reported in a news release. As the man was being arrested, the juvenile female suspect interfered and began to assault the female officer, the release stated.

“It appears as if the female juvenile struck the female officer in the head from behind causing the female officer to fall to the ground,” police said in the release.

Numerous other officers from Center Line and Warren soon arrived and managed to place both the juvenile female and adult male under arrest.

Authorities said medics from the Warren Fire Department transported the officer to an area hospital, where she was reported to be in serious but stable condition.

“It is expected that the officer will be admitted at the hospital for further medical evaluation as she possibly suffered a concussion during this assault,” police said.

The female suspect involved was taken to the Warren Police Department for processing.

Police said the case findings will be turned over to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Prosecutors will decide whether to charge her as a juvenile or adult.

The male suspect who was arrested was also taken to the police department for processing, according to authorities who said he was not involved in the assault on the officer.

He also was not believed to be a student at the school.
