-

The Maui Interscholastic League will conduct a clinic and symposium for current and prospective officials on July 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Maui High School library in Kahului.

The featured speaker will be Matt Sumstine, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association football coordinator and NFL referee. Also, each MIL officials coordinator will have a chance to speak about their respective sport and what they are looking for as far as qualities that are needed to officiate that sport.

“We are looking for officials who may want to crossover and learn to officiate another sport and new officials with no experience who want to learn how to officiate and have a mentor to help them learn how to officiate the sport,” MIL executive director Joseph Balangitao said in an email. “We are also looking for police officers, firemen, teachers and other professionals who want to give back and mentor youth and earn extra money.”

High school students are also welcome to attend.
