Experts will speak about ecosystem
Friends of Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge will host a presentation from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge Conference Room titled “Hawaiian Tropical Shrublands: An Endangered Ecosystem.”
Samuel M. ‘Ohukani‘ohi‘a Gon III and Butch Haase will lead a conversation about the ecology of Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge.
Considered one of the most prominent authorities on Hawaiian tropical shrubland, Gon will lead attendees through the natural history of this ecoregion.
As executive director of the Moloka‘i Land Trust, Haase is responsible for protecting and managing the Mokio and Kawaikapu preserves. He will share his experience managing these restoration projects.
There is a recommended donation of $10, which includes membership in Friends of Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge for the rest of 2019. The talk is free for members of Friends of Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge and federal employees.
