Forest restoration trip planned July 20

-

Auwahi Forest Restoration Project volunteers will meet at Ulupalakua Ranch Store July 20 for an 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. work excursion. Due to rough, steep terrain, hiking boots that cover the ankle are required.

Volunteers should pack layered clothing, rain gear, two liters of water, lunch, sunscreen and a hat.

There is a limited number of four-wheel drive vehicles and limited room for volunteers. To RSVP, email volunteer@ auwahi.org.

Two Lanai High School graduates have been awarded $2,000 each, a laptop and a Da Kine backpack by the Kukui Malamalama Scholarship program. The scholarship award is administered by the Friends of Lanai High & Elementary Schools Foundation on behalf of Pulama Lanai. Kukui Malamalama Scholarships are intended to encourage students to further their education after high school. The recipients are

chosen for their good character and financial need.

This year’s recipients are Steven Jackson and Angeline Matute.

Jackson plans on attending Honolulu Community College to pursue a major in carpentry.

Matute will be attending Olympic College in Washington. She intends to major in pre-dentistry.

Six schools participate in the Kukui Malamalama Scholarship program: Hana High School, Molokai High School, Lanai High School, KeKula Niihau School, Waianae High School and Kahuku High School.
