Oliver Gold wins short story contest Bus registration for KYC members
Oliver Gold has won the sixth annual Lahaina Short Story Writers Contest for his short story “Magic Moments Hotel.”
Gold took home the first prize of $150.
Second prize, a $100 gift certificate, went to Everett Peacock for his story “Drum Party.” Third prize, a $50 gift certificate, was awarded to JoAnn Carroll for her story “Irene.”
Contest winners were announced on July 12 during Lahaina’s Second Friday “Supporting Creative Arts” event sponsored by the LahainaTown Action Committee and the the county Office of Economic Development.
The Maui Short Story Competition is designed to encourage previously unpublished writers to explore writing about Maui from a unique perspective.
The competition is open genre with writers encouraged to explore Maui life, heritage, culture, land and the ocean through their short stories.
The contest will begin another cycle in February for the seventh annual event. Submission information can be found at www.visitlahaina.com.
The winning stories can be read at the Lahaina Visitor Center at the Old Lahaina Courthouse.
Kihei Youth Center members who would like to use the Maui Economic Opportunity Youth Transportation services for the upcoming school year are required to register. Applications are available at the Kihei Youth Center at 131 S. Kihei Road, Building B.
There is no fee for the MEO Youth Transportation as it is complimentary with the Kihei Youth Center registration.
A KYC membership registration must be completed by an adult or guardian. The cost is $10 per member for all new registrants and $5 thereafter for all renewals.
Scholarships are available for all new and renewed members.
After-school MEO Youth Transportation services for South Maui will be from Kihei Elementary, Kamali‘i Elementary, Lokelani Intermediate and Maui High School. For more information, call 8798698.
