Virtual Maui Heart Walk begins today

The annual Maui Heart Walk, a fundraiser for the American Heart Association, is going virtual this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

From Saturday to Friday, Maui Heart Walk participants and teams will not physically meet but are invited to get moving at home or around the neighborhood. Suggested activities include:

• Taking a walk outside (while following current social distancing guidelines).

• Getting the whole family involved with an indoor dance party.

• Trying out a few strengthening exercises like push-ups, lunges and squats.

• Creating an at-home circuit workout.

• Learning the basics of “Hands-Only” CPR online.

• Getting nutrition tips and trying kid-friendly, hearthealthy recipes.

Participants can stay up to date by downloading the Heart Walk mobile app and encourage friends and family to join in via email or on social media. During the event, everyone is encouraged to post pictures and videos to document their activity using #MauiHeartWalk and virtually connect with other participants.

“This virtual format allows everyone to continue to have fun and support our lifesaving mission, while adapting to spending more time at home. We are grateful for the support from our community and can’t wait to see how everyone makes the Heart Walk their own,” said event Co-Chairman Rick Volner, general manager of Maui operations at HC&D.
