Roadwork to cause some lane closures

-

New and ongoing roadwork will cause lane closures across Maui next week, the state Department of Transportation announced Friday.

Tree trimming, crown raising and stump removal will lead to a roving right-lane closure on Kula Highway in the southbound direction between Aapueo Parkway and Kula Highway past Kealakapu Road. The work will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

The department also said that the single eastbound lane of Hana Highway between Stable Road and Alawai Road (the entrance to Baldwin Beach Park) will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, though it did not give a reason.

Meanwhile, the installation of striping and pavement markers will require a single-lane closure on Honoapiilani Highway in either direction between Honoapiilani Highway and Maalaea Boat Harbor Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be lane closures and shifts at various areas, and shoulders may be closed within the work zone.

Landscaping and other maintenance will force the closure of a single northbound lane on Honoapiilani Highway between Aholo Road and Lahainaluna Road from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

In Kihei, a single lane will continue to be closed on Piilani Highway in either direction between North Kihei Road and Wailea Ike Drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for ongoing safety improvements, including guardrail installation and pavement striping work. Speed has been reduced in the construction zone.

Ongoing installation of temporary span wire traffic signals will require a closure of the right-turn lane on southbound Piilani Highway turning onto Kulanihakoi Street and the right-turn lane coming out of Kulanihakoi onto Piilani southbound. The work is taking place 24 hours a day through Dec. 11.
