KAMEHAMEHA DAY OBSERVED ON MAUI

Hotel staffers and guests took part in the lei ceremony in honor of Kamehameha Day, which is celebrated every year on June 11. The holiday was first proclaimed on Dec. 22, 1871 by Kamehameha V. His grandfather, Kamehameha the Great, or Kamehameha I, was the first Hawaiian monarch to unify all of the main islands into one kingdom.
