Man dies, found not responding in ocean

A Kihei man was pronounced dead Thursday after he was found unresponsive in the ocean off South Kihei Road, officials said.

Police and firefighters responded to the beach area of 76 S. Kihei Road at 3:14 p.m. after bystanders had brought the man to shore, officials said.

First responders took over efforts to revive the man, police said.

Police said the man’s identity was being withheld until relatives were notified.

An autopsy was scheduled.
