Automatic registration can remove barriers for voters
We believe the automatic voter registration Senate Bill 159 that is now on the desk of Gov. David Ige will remove barriers for eligible Hawai‘i residents to register to vote, update our voter rolls and ensure compliance with the National Voters Registration Act of 1993 and the Help America Vote Act of 2002.
As voting rights become increasingly fragile across the nation, it is critical that we encourage Gov. Ige to sign SB 159.
Join us by emailing Gov. Ige at: david.y.ige@hawaii.gov or by calling: (808) 586-0034 to encourage him to sign SB 159 in a ceremony before June 21.
Under SB 159, when eligible new voters visit their Department of Motor Vehicles and indicate their desire to be registered, their information will be verified immediately and electronically transmitted to election officials to be securely added to the voter rolls.
The mail-in ballots for all registered voters will be sent to the current and correct addresses.
