County will end federal immigration application, other services Dec. 1
Maui County will no longer provide federal immigration application and other services starting Dec. 1 due to a lack of staffing, the Department of Housing and Human Concerns’ Immigrant Services Division announced.
In February, the division received condition approval by the federal government for recognition and accreditation to process immigration applications, but with division employee retirements, accredited staff will no longer be available. The county does not plan to pursue new staff accreditations.
The division will continue sharing general U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Embassy updates and will also maintain a select supply of current, free immigration forms.
Applicants for federal immigration services are encouraged to know and understand the immigration benefits they are seeking, as division staff will not determine the correct benefit form for applicants, the county said. They will need to request documents by correct form name and number. Information and forms are also available online at uscis.gov.
The division will provide necessary service referrals and hopes to expand education and outreach, the county said.
The termination of immigration form services affects, but is not limited to: I-90 Renewal or Replacement of Permanent Resident “green” card, I-765 Application for Employment Authorization (EADs), I-130 Petition for Alien Relative and N-400 Application for Naturalization (Citizenship).
