Bail set at $49K for woman allegedly found with drugs
WAILUKU — A woman was arrested after police reported finding drugs Wednesday during searches of her and her residence in Kahana.
Heather Harkness-Pastrana, 45, was charged with seconddegree promotion of a dangerous drug, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia.
According to a declaration filed in court to support the charges, the search warrants were executed Wednesday afternoon. Police reported finding 0.08 gram of cocaine in Harkness-Pastrana’s pants pocket. In the residence, police reported finding 19.37 grams of methamphetamine, $5,523 in cash, a sword and three doubleedged throwing knives, according to the declaration.
During her initial appearance Friday in Lahaina District Court, convening in Wailuku, Deputy
Prosecutor Jeffery Temas asked for bail to be set at $49,000 for Harkness-Pastrana. “We have a defendant who’s unemployed with a large amount of cash and drugs,” he said. “She’s not originally from the state. We’re concerned about flight.”
Deputy Public Defender Emily Collins said HarknessPastrana is self-employed and has lived on Maui since 2003. She has no criminal history and custody of three minor daughters, Collins said in asking for the defendant to be released on supervision.
Temas said it was “disconcerting” that Harkness-Pastrana was responsible for three minor children and was allegedly found with methamphetamine, cocaine and weapons. “This is a concern not only for her welfare but the welfare of the minor children,” Temas said.
Judge Michelle Drewyer set bail at $49,000.
