Salvation Army seeks donations for people in need

The Salvation Army is offering options for online and digital donations for its Angel Tree and red kettle fundraisers to help people in need as part of its “Hope Marches On” campaign this holiday season.

Donations can be made digitally with Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Venmo at red kettle locations. On Maui, red kettles will be set up through Christmas Eve at Walmart; Pukalani Superette; Safeway stores at Hookele, Honoapiilani, Maui Lani and Piikea; and Walgreens in Kahului, Lahaina and Wailuku.

Because of the pandemic, there are fewer locations for red kettles, which support community-based programs in the areas of the island where donations are made.

Virtual red kettles can be found online at HawaiiRedKettle.org.

Businesses can adopt a red kettle or set up paper red kettles at their locations by calling (808) 988-2136.

At Angel Tree locations, Christmas trees are decorated with paper angel tag ornaments with the first name, age and gender of a keiki or kupuna in need. Donors can select one or more tags from the Angel Tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the keiki or senior described on the tags. The gifts are returned to the tree the tags were pulled from.

Angel Tree locations include Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union; Maui County Federal Credit Union branches in Kahului, Lahaina and Wailuku; Maui Family YMCA; and Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center through Dec. 11; Body in Balance Maui in Lahaina through Dec. 12; and Walmart through Dec. 15.

Gifts also can be purchased online through Angel Tree online Walmart gift registries at walmart.com/registryforgood. Cash donations for gifts can be made at Burger King restaurants through Dec. 31.
