Democracy in America becoming fascist oligarchy
In college, I started as a history major. Much of what I learned was not taught in high school.
For example, “All men are created equal,” a quotation from the U.S. Declaration of Independence, only referred to “white men,” and excluded women, who were not allowed to vote.
Thomas Jefferson, who authored the above, George Washington and several other “founding fathers” were slave owners.
When President Abraham Lincoln proceeded to abolish slavery, he was assassinated.
The Republican Party, once referred to as “the party of Lincoln” but now as “the party of Trump,” has been working very hard to suppress the right of “people of color” to vote by suppressing voting rights in districts where many of them live.
The U.S. Senate Republicans led by Mitch McConnell kept President Barack Obama from placing someone on the U.S. Supreme Court, giving that power instead to President Donald Trump.
The Republicans of Trump insist that their candidate won the election, claiming voter fraud. This has been proven false.
McConnell, with the filibuster, is keeping laws he and Trump are against from being brought before the Senate for a vote.
So here we are, the racists and the blind being led to turn our democracy into an oligarchy with most of our citizens' opinions and right to vote being ignored. There are none so blind as those that don’t want to see or hear opinions other than their own.
I hope our country will remain a democracy, rather than become a fascist oligarchy with voter suppression.
