-

Maui-based nonprofit What Makes You Feel Beautiful and Portland Ore.-based Pink Sistas will hold a Pink Waves Breast Cancer Awareness Beach Walk from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kahekili Beach, also known as Airport Beach.

What Makes You Feel Beautiful is hosting 30 breast cancer survivors from Portland for a breast cancer survivors’ retreat from Saturday through Oct. 8.

“This upcoming beach walk will inspire us to be more selfaware and to have courage,” Monica Marrow, founder of What Makes You Feel Beautiful, said in a news release. “We are delighted and honored to work with Deb and her fantastic organization. Empowering women is at the core of our mission — which is to foster self-esteem, self-love and develop the leadership capability of girls and women of all ages, at all stages of life, providing guidance to all women and girls in achieving their personal and career goals.”

Maui organizations, businesses, individuals and groups are invited to join on the walk.

Deb Hart, founder of Pink Sistas, said the nonprofit is coming to Maui to mark its 10th anniversary.

“We could not think of a more idyllic place to celebrate than Maui,” Hart said. “We are excited about co-sponsoring this inaugural beach walk to raise awareness to the importance of women getting a yearly mammogram and to support survivorship through a walk on the beach. Survivors are fighters and together, as women, we continue to share the positives from our experiences.”
